Exam Regulations and Procedures

All pupils sitting external exams must follow the procedures and regulations laid out in our Exam Candidate Handbook. We advise that all parents read this document as well as the Joint Council for Qualifications’ (JCQ) guidance, in order to help support pupils through external exams.

Revision Advice

At Dean Trust Ardwick, we guide our pupils to understand effective revision is not something which can occur immediately before an exam. Rather, that learning occurs through constant and regular retrieval of facts and information as well as systematic and repeated purposeful practice. Therefore, our pupils are taught not how to revise, but how to learn effectively and these skills are practised and explained from Year 7 onwards and are built into the fabric of lessons and homework. We emphasise the importance of:

  • Quizzing (self/peer)
  • Producing and quizzing with flashcards
  • Purposeful Practice
  • Interleaving and spacing topics and subjects
  • Organising revision time using ‘The Memory Clock’

Exams and Wellbeing

At Dean Trust Ardwick, we support our pupils in coping with exam stress and anxiety in a number of ways including 1-1 coaching and mentoring (including peer to peer); mindfulness sessions before, during and after school and explicit teaching of recognising and coping strategies.
